Air Travel
QantasLink operates a daily service, Brisbane to Longreach return. For reservations:
The extended Longreach airport runway can accommodate medium size jet aircraft, so
charter flights are often operating. Consult your local travel agent for details.
The Longreach Shire Council has recently been granted a $6 million dollar upgrade for the
Longreach airport. This upgrade will consist of lengthening and strengthening the main runway,
enabling it to accommodate jet aircraft, the relocation of the cross strip, taxiway, parking apron,
roadway, highway access, and the construction a the new passenger terminal.
This will be a significant boost for Longreach and the surrounding areas, allowing greater
opportunity for visitors from different areas with hopes that flight will also become
available from Sydney and Melbourne.
Rail Travel
Queensland Rail's 'Spirit of the Outback' departs Brisbane twice weekly. The train departs
Brisbane Tuesday and Saturday evenings, and arrives in Longreach some twenty-four hours later.
From Longreach, the train departs on Wednesday and Monday mornings for the journey back to
Brisbane. The train has first-class and economy sleepers as well as comfortable economy seating.
