Former Rugby League player, television sports presenter and Ambassador for the Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame, Shane Webcke will jump in the saddle and help raise money for breast cancer for the “Pink” Ride in the Outback in Longreach on Saturday 26 June.

Shane will be among the expected 200 riders who will dress in pink to ride the 20kms from Longway Station to the Hall of Fame in Longreach.

Shane said he is looking forward to participating in the Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame “Pink” Ride in the Outback.

“I am very much looking forward to this event with some trepidation given my limited experience on horseback,” Shane said. “I have no doubt that I will be very sore in the posterior region at the end of the event.”

“That said, it is an easy event to support given the scope and impact that breast cancer has on the community. It is important that we support not only initiatives to develop a cure, but also support individuals and their families whom are diagnosed.

“To be out in the bush on horseback, akubras on, in an iconic location in the Australian bush, amongst friends and like minded people, has me salivating in anticipation. In short, it’s difficult to think of a better way to put in a couple of days. Bring it on!” he said.

Leonie Nunn, breast cancer survivor and 2010 Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame “Pink” Ride in the Outback event ambassador, is also excited about participating in the ride.

“I will be riding in this event because it is a worthwhile cause and it brings attention to breast cancer, as well as the opportunity to raise funds,” Leonie said. “Participants have an enjoyable experience even if they are not participating in the fundraising side.”

“I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007. Through my personal experience, I appreciate the support that such organisations as the Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame provide,” she said.

Leonie started riding when she was nine years old, but has not ridden a horse for 20 years, hence she is anxious to complete the ride.

“I want to complete this ride for two reasons- for the cause and for my own satisfaction to prove to myself that I can do it. I guess after what I have experienced, there is a certain urge to make the most of life,” she said.

Leonie will be a guest speaker at the dinner following the day’s proceedings. Her husband Jim Nunn and son, Matt Nunn will also be participating in the ride.

Breast cancer survivor and National Breast Cancer Ambassador, Sharon Cohrs has also agreed to be a guest speaker for the event and will participate in the “Pink” Ride in the Outback.

Sharon was diagnosed with breast cancer when she was 36-years-old in December 2007. Since then, she has a new passion for life and motivation to succeed in challenging tasks including a mountain climb in Nepal and the “Pink” Ride in the Outback.

“Today, I am in remission and as far as I’m concerned, cancer will never visit me again,” Sharon said. “It is from the love of my family and friends that I stand here today. Life is for living, and never stop chasing your dreams.”

“I will help raise as much awareness to help my community for as long as it takes. And if my quest gets me to the top of the world in hope of finding a cure and further help with support services, then so be it. I am always up for a challenge, and “NO” is not in my vocabulary,” she said.

The 2010 Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame “Pink” ride is a slow-paced trail ride. Registrations can be made prior to the event or on the day at 7.00am. The ride will depart from at 9.00am and finish at the Hall of Fame at 3.30pm.

*Shane will be riding a borrowed horse compliments to the Stockman’s Hall of Fame and the Australian Agricultural College.
