Art portrays young outback life
Come and enjoy a glimpse into A Child’s Life on the Station when this multimedia exhibition comes to the Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame’s Hugh Sawrey Art Gallery this month.
Presented by Queensland Arts Council’s Ontour onexhibition, A Child’s Life on the Station depicts the unique lifestyle of children on Australia’s outback stations.
Theexhibition shows the special bonds forged between station kids and their family, animals and friends that are strengthened in isolation from major cities and towns.
The photographs are taken by parents and friends and depict various childhood experiences of the joy, self-reliance and hardship that come with station life.
‘Whether you have ever been a kid on a station or not, it’s hard to not appreciate how different from the norm life is for some of these kids: growing up helping mum and dad with the livestock, learning through distance education and swimming in a water trough or having a pet poddie calf,’ said Ms Regnart.
‘The photographs are complemented by a DVD, which provides the sound of life on the land, bringing life to these gorgeous images that epitomise childhood on an outback farm.’
The exhibition was produced from a photographic competition run by Mitchell Arts Council, with assistance from the Roma Regional Council Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) and Epic Energy.
Ontour onexhibition produces, programs and presents quality touring exhibitions of original works encompassing multiple artforms. It is Queensland’s most extensive touring exhibitions program and continues to have a regional reach three times larger than any touring exhibition program in Queensland.
